Hi,
I really enjoyed you stories and can remember the 40's as if it were yesterday. I am a bit older then you (68). So, you may not know anything about what I am about to ask you.
I was wondering if you remember war bread? It was made from all the left overs in the bakery. It was heavy as a rock and heaven to the taste. you could pay 10 cents for a hunk that took you all day to eat and it kept you full just as long? Keep up the good work. There are a lot of us ol'timers that appreciate the memories.

I enjoyed your piece about your attempt to purchase a doll with the money that was to be given to the church. Interesting...In Yiddish there's a word for money tied in the corner of a handkerchief. It's called a "K'nippel." The money is not to be used for charity; it's a private stash kept by women JUST IN CASE. When I got married in l958, my mother suggested that I have my own K'nippel.

Good to look at. Do you recall using a cream separator? I just bought me one at an auction that has been sitting idle for several years. All the parts seem to be there, I am told. Do you have any tips on using it? I raise goats but have access to some Jersey milk to make it an easier try the first time around. I'm looking to make our butter instead of paying $2.50 and over per pound these days. Thank you.

Thanks for the memories. I was raised on a 40 acre farm in Southern Indiana. We did not have electicity or a telephone when we moved there. It was a cozy home, certainly not a fancy house with no warmth. The barn is all that survives today. I was online looking for a picture of a Delaval cream separator to put in my Glover Genealogy. It used to sit on a mount on the side porch and I remember washing the disks. No one knows what this stuff was so I am making sure they know. At 66 and single I have a lot of time to do this but I doubt if I will get it done in my lifetime. I hope God has blessed you like he has me. I think he has.

Love your stories reminds me of my days when I was younger I was one of eight children I didn't see much of my dad because he worked so much when we did it was the most important part of our lives my ma died with cancer when she was 50 and my dad is dead but it is great to read someone who loves there parents so much. We had little and I had to wear my sisters dresses after she had got them with holes but it was like having a new dress and it didn't matter to me. Oh how days have changed. Children don't won't just the simple things.
